SBS's research study "Public Sector Pensions: How Well Funded Are They, Really?" showed that the public employee pension plan is only 41 percent funded while total unfunded liabilities as of 2011 are at least $4.6 trillion. Another ecent research study showing that public pension funds undertake more risk if they are underfunded, and read some of the solutions and proposed reforms.
