Alabama House set to debate General Fund budget

BusinessweekApril 27, 2011

A $1.8 billion budget to fund most non-education state services in Alabama moves close to final approval in the Alabama Legislature.

The Alabama House will debate the General Fund budget and related bills after coming into session at 1 p.m. Tuesday. The spending plan for state agencies such as Medicaid, state troopers and corrections has already been approved by the Senate. A few changes were made in a House committee so the budget will likely have to go back to the Senate for final approval or to a conference committee.

The austere budget cuts funding for many state agencies and cuts all state money going to many historical sites, museums and tourist attractions.
